India has won 35 medals at the Olympics since the 1900 edition.India started their maiden Olympic stint with Norman Pritchard at the 1900 Paris Olympics. The first Indian representative in the modern Summer Olympics had participated in five men’s events in athletics – 60m, 100m, 200m, 110m and 200m hurdles, and ended up winning silver medals in 200m and 200m hurdles. Norman Pritchard won India’s first individual medal pre-independence.
The Indian hockey team scored 29 goals without reply in five matches to win its first Olympic gold medal in Amsterdam 1928.In this match Dhyan Chand scored 14 goals, including a hat-trick in the final against the Netherlands in the final. This was Indian hockey’s first medal at the Olympics.
Wrestler KD Jadhav became India’s first individual Olympic medalist won bronze in the men’s freestyle bantamweight category in Helsinki 1952. Karnam Melleswari won bronze medal in the 54kg category in Sydney 2000, becoming the first Indian woman to win an Olympic medal.

Vigrndra Singh became the first Indian boxer to win an Olympic medal.
